If you’re considering shockwave therapy, knowing what to expect can make your first session more comfortable. At Medical Acupuncture Group in Oviedo, FL, we provide personalized care and walk you through every step.

The session begins with an assessment to pinpoint the affected area. Your provider will apply a gel to the skin to help conduct the acoustic waves. A handheld device then delivers short bursts of high-energy pulses to the treatment zone.

Most patients describe the sensation as a tapping or pulsing feeling. While mild discomfort may occur, the treatment is well-tolerated and doesn’t require anesthesia or recovery time.

Each session lasts 15–30 minutes, and a treatment plan may include 3 to 6 visits depending on the severity of your condition. Afterward, patients may experience temporary redness or soreness, which resolves within a few hours to days.
